From Fred: The 32nd Season of Washington Summer Sings will be on Tuesdays at 7:30 during the month of June, as usual.
We usually have about 200 good singers from the best choruses in the DC area who have performed these works several times. You sit with them: Sopranos and Altos up front; Basses and Tenors behind them. The director, pianist, and soloists are professionals who volunteer their time.
So… you have never sung one of them? So what? Sight read. The director often goes over a few passages that cause trouble, even with good singers – and then you “perform.” No rehearsal; just perform it.
All four will start at 7:30 PM and will be at:
Western Presbyterian Church
– 2401 Virginia Avenue, N.W.
– Washington, D.C. 20037
(corner of 24th. & G. Streets, near Foggy Bottom Metro & GWU)
There is parking under the church if you get there at or before 7 PM. On street parking usually has some vacancies starting a few blocks away; and there are commercial parking lots a few blocks away. Carpooling with someone who has done this before is recommended.
Admission is still $10 per person. Bring your own copy of the music or rent a copy for $2.
I have attached a copy (.pdf) of their flyer but just in case it does not survive; here is the critical info:
June 03 -Brahms: German Requiem (in German); J Reilly Lewis, Music Director, Cathedral Choral Soc
June 10 -Mozart: Requiem; Robert Shafer, Dir. City Choir of Washington & Shenandoah Conservatory
June 17-Faure’: Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine; Thomas Colohan, Washington Master Chor.
June 24-Vivaldi: Gloria, Thomas Beveridge, Artistic Dir New Dominion Chorale & National Men’s Chor
Talk about this with the “experienced” members of NOVA Chorus next Tuesday, when you are not on stage.
